Ira Aldridge Repertory Players in collaboration with SAN DIEGO CONTINUING EDUCATION, EDUCATIONAL CULTURAL COMPLEX opens its 30th Theatre Season with Manson’s and Overstreet’s Dancin’ in the Street, a musical spectacular that highlights the songs of Motown artists and R&B/soul music legends.

“Everybody has a soundtrack for his or her life," Manson said. "There was a song on the radio when you lost your job and got in the car and turned on the radio. When everything is grim and the outlook looks dark, music is the only thing that makes you feel good. Dancin’ in the Street is an electrifying and soulful musical revue about a community coming together to celebrate soul and its universal and enduring influence on music and culture. It features songs by Sam and Dave, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Al Green, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and many more musical greats. Cast includes: Teye Sa Thiosanne African Drum & Dance Company, Thunder Squad Drumline, and Sephus’s Hip Hop Dance Troupe. Also included are some of San Diego’s finest jazz, blues, R&B and gospel singers such as: (Ayanna Hobson, Janice Edwards, Robbie Douglass, Paula Proffitt, Kiara Johnson, Rodney Hutsona, Carl Overstreet, Eric Overstreet, Marvin Ivy and Herb Sims.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dancin’ in the Street artistic staff includes IARP Artistic Director Calvin Manson, co-director/musical director Eric Overstreet and co- musical director Stephen Gooden and features choreography by C. Anthony Cole, Elliott Vimel Sephus, Tyra Ms Tee Hawthorne, Marvin Ivy and Aminisha Cunningham.
